Through the private gate in the garden walls of Penshurst Place stands the Village’s picturesque medieval church. Begun in the 12th century, it houses the chapel and burial vault of the Sidney family. The church’s outstanding architecture and art bear witness across the centuries to the story of an English village and its most famous family. Tour the House between 9.30am and 11am or at 3.30pm, and combine with a tour of the church between 10.00am and 4pm.

Find out why the Sidney family, who still own it to this day, were gifted the property in 1552 by Henry VIII’s son, Edward VI. Take time to wander the unique historic Elizabethan Gardens with records dating back to the 14th century. Then travel just a few miles west to visit Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn to which she returned repeatedly during her long courtship with Henry VIII. Enjoy a leisurely visit through the intimate Castle and magnificent grounds.
