House & Historic Penshurst Church Tour

Through the private gate in the garden walls of Penshurst Place stands the Village’s picturesque medieval church. Begun in the 12th century, it houses the chapel and burial vault of the Sidney family. The church’s outstanding architecture and art bear witness across the centuries to the story of an English village and its most famous family. Tour the House between 9.30am and 11am or at 3.30pm, and combine with a tour of the church between 10.00am and 4pm.

In the Footsteps of the Tudors with Hever Castle

Visit two historic estates in Kent brought together by the Tudors. Learn more about the history of these two estates and their royal connections with this special joint offer.

First, a tour of Penshurst Place to discover its rich medieval and Tudor history. Find out why the Sidney family, who still own it to this day, were gifted the property in 1552 by Henry VIII’s son, Edward VI. Take time to wander the unique historic Elizabethan Gardens with records dating back to the 14th century. Then travel just a few miles west to visit Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn to which she returned repeatedly during her long courtship with Henry VIII. Enjoy a leisurely visit through the intimate Castle and magnificent grounds.

Enjoy a guided tour of the house or garden at Penshurst Place (with free-flow access to the other) in the morning, before making the short journey to the beautiful village of Chiddingstone where you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon stroll through the house, museum and grounds.
